Since the demise of my former band in 2007 I've worked almost exclusively with what I've been calling my new band. The weird thing about that is we've been touring and recording together for nearly ten years. Robi Parolin on drums and Reggie Bowman on bass.
Unless you're close to the band as some of you truly are, you may not be aware of the remarkable talent of these two guys. Robi is a writer in his own right and also tours the globe with other acts as the world class musician that he is.
But Reggie is in a complete league of his own as a writer, producer and instrumentalist. Former member and writer of heart throb 90's rock band Southern Sons, Reggie's writing has never been more poignant lyrically, while his melodies are simply to die for from a singers point of view.
A solo career that was once proudly dominated by my own creations will now broaden to accept the input of the "new band". Which is another way of saying 'I'm putting my stamp on these gems before some other artist gets their mits on them".
At this point I'll add the mirthful and grammar challenging word of "Mawwhahahaha"
Meanwhile I will also contribute my current, thoughtfully stabilizing compositions... I like to write in story form, it just seems to flow from my pen in that format.
Tricky situation when two thirds of the band are multi instrumentalists though. At what stage do we stop adding instruments? I mean, between two of us we cover bass, drums, percussion, all kinds of electric and acoustic guitars, banjo, ukelele, harmonica, mandolin, dobro and all manner of keyboards.
Fortunately though, one of us is a brilliant producer....we have that.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
