Through Camooweal

THROUGH CAMOOWEAL Steve Eales c 2004(SHOCK)

The first time that I met old Aboline
Was at the Post Office Hotel in Camooweal
He was singing songs and spinning yarns about his droving days
And we gathered round to here what he had to say

He played an old twelve-string guitar
It was a little beat up and it only had six strings
But he fired my imagination with the stories that he sung
And I found my mind was off wandering

Cos’ I wished I was a drover bringing cattle from the West
Through Camooweal
We’d leave the mob out at the stock yard
Make a camp beside the road to Barkley Downs
On the way
Down to Moorestone we’d be riding
Across the river through the outback border town
Of Camooweal

A kite hawk circled in the sky
I watched him as the wind lifted him high
And the rodeo was about to begin
But old Ab still had my mind wandering

Cos’ I wished I was a drover bringing cattle from the West
Through Camooweal
We’d leave the mob out at the stock yard
Make a camp beside the road to Barkley Downs
On the way
Down to Moorestone we’d be riding
Across the river through the outback border town
Of Camooweal
